This Weeks Progress
Hello Lady's and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls...it's nice to see you to see you....NICE!
Last week progress was made on my 3-4min package. I have recorded my interview with Louis and it lasts 20mins with loads of good audio i can use!
Only thing I want to do is to re-record the questions as I feel I stammered when I asked them making not sound as good as it can be.
I have arranged my interview with Ian Pinnell and that shall take place on Wednesday Afternoon.
I'll be asking Ian mostly the same questions I asked Louis to get his view as see if it is different to Louis'.
I am just about to find an email address for someone at the BBC who fits the bill for my project and try and arrange an interview for this week.

I'm still unsure of what I want to do with music. I want a bed to keep the programme alive and kicking but I'm not sure what music to use. I was thinking about using a bed the was made for Off The Chart Radio with clips of internet radio stations coming in to break up interviews.
Of course i'll need to get permission from Tim Willett (station manager) to use the OTC Beds.
Every person I am interviewing i'll give the same amount of time and ask them fair questions.

24Hour Radio Broadcast
Hello me again! lol

Hello again!
Been a while since i updated my blog so here's the low down.
As you know from the past posts my 3-4min package is if there is a future of internet radio.
My plan for preparation is as follows:
Research :
Ofcom and PPL website - Find out the difference in licensing
Tim Willett (Internet radio station manager) - Find out about the main restrictions on internet radio
Barry Snedden (Kingdom FM programme controller) - Find out about main restrictions on commercial radio and compare with restrictions to internet radio
BBC - Find out how popular BBC online radio services are
Tim Willett - Find out how popular internet radio is and compare to BBC
Off The Chart Radio Forum (internet station) - Ask listeners why they choose internet over commercial / bbc radio
That's it as far as the research goes for now. The above should give me facts and figures to compare intenet over commercial.
From the research I have done already I know that Tim's internet station, Off The Chart, has become much more popular since it launched it's stream on itunes last month. This is telling me that there is a market for internet radio but it's all about finding your listeners and getting the right advertising.
Just from my own knowledge I know that internet radio is much more relaxed in the restrictions than commercial radio. I'll need to dig deeper into this area to find out the differences more pacifically.
The BBC online demand is obviously much more than internet radio will ever be. I want to find out how much more popular it is. I don't think i'll be able to get an exact number or percentage but a rough idea would be helpful.
Interviews:
Internet Radio Presenters - Asking questions relating to their opinions on of there is a future and finding out why they think there is/isn't
Listeners - Interview listeners of internet radio and ask why they listen to internet radio and get feelings towards to future of internet radio.
BBC - Ask a BBC spokesman about popularity and demand for BBC radio online services. Also ask if he feels the BBC can be destroying internet radio.
Louis Kearton (Internet and Commercial DJ) - Ask about the difference in popularity. Finding out where he gets the more listener interaction.
That's my 4 interviews.
Louis Kearton is a confirmed interviewee and the interview with him will be recored in the college radio studio this Thursday while Louis is visiting from London.
I'll be hopefully getting skype interviews this week with some internet radio presenters such as Ian Pinnell, Tim Willett, Mike Redding, Scott Ashworth and Jason Moyle. I'll be choosing the best interview out of all of the DJs I interview but if i find all are good I might make the internet radio presenters interviews in the form of a Vox Pop.
Costings:
Most of my interviewees are not local as the internet is a worldwide service therefore I will do most of my interviews by phone or by skype (skype for better quality). Skype interviews will be recorded in my home studio. Phone and skype interviews is also free so there is no costing issues there.
There will not be any costings in travel as interviews will be done in home studio or by phone in the college studio. Getting to college does not cost me anything as I have a bus pass.
Heath and Safety:
There is nothing really to worry about when it comes to heath and safety as i'm not going to be out on the streets when interviewing.
All I need to focal on the safety and security when having guests in the college studio.
Audio:
I plan on using some clips from broadcasts on internet radio to show the fun and difference in it from your standard radio station. The clips will come from Off The Chart Radio as I have easy access to clips from there. I will of course need to ask permission from Tim Willitt (station manager) and the DJ on the clips.
As well as clips I want to use SFX. I want to use a "dial up" sound to show internet radio and a "tuning" sound to show commercial radio. I'll properly get the SFX from the internet so i'll need to make sure the source is legal and I have copyright permission to use them.
That's as far as the planning goes for now.
When i record the final show I'll be thinking of Internet Radio audience as this is most likely where this package would be broadcasted.

Hello all!
Have thought more about my interviews for my programme and have come up with:

3-4min Programme Package

Next monday for college I have to present a pitch of an idea for a 3-4min radio package! It must include 4 interviews which will be fun! :)
Now i've spent all afternoon thinking what I can do for it and just now, while talking to Ian Pinnell, I have come up with the idea of Internet Radio focusing on the topic: Is there a market for Internet Radio.
Not sure about interviews yet but one will be someone from Off The Chart Radio, most likely to be Ian Pinnell. lol. I could contact some of my regular listeners and see if I can get a wee phone interview with them. These two people say yes there is a market so i'll need to look hard to find 2 people who would say no. There are a lot of private internet radio stations out there so it might be interessting to contact the manger of one of them.
Anyway i'll think more into this idea and let you know what happens!

Music Production Class
Hello again readers,
Today was a great day in college! Why do you ask? well...we started the Music Production class today!
I'll skip all the details as they will bore you but the main thing I wanted to share you with you is my idea for a one hour long radio show that we have to do ourselfs. The radio show has to have a point to it and a style that will be pitched to Conor (tutor) before we go ahead.
I am thinking about doing an hours show about Coldplay. Coldplay are a massive band that have been around since 1998. They have just resently released their new album, Viva La Vida and they are about to start their UK, where I shall see them in Glasgow in December.
Anyway My show will include information about the band, a Coldplay competition and music from the old and the new albums which some information about that track such as it's chart position.
I know that Coldplay are loved at the BBC Radio Studios so I would be aiming this programme for BBC Radio listeners...possibly more Radio 2 as Coldplay are a band that all ages listen to.
Also in class today Conor briefly went over ETC FM which the radio station my class will be running on the web come February. ETC FM is completely run by the students alone so therefore we have to all have roles within the station. I am looking to be the chair of the station as I have got experience of running Internet Radio stations such as Loud Live Radio.
Anyhoos must dash! Will keep you updated as this all unravels in the class.

College Blogging
Hey guys! Sitting in college right now using an imac! How i hate them so much!!!!
We have all sorts of problems this morning trying to use protools. It has been rather funny as it just crashes every time you try to do anything with a piece of audio!
I blame the Macs tho as macs are rubbish :) Since protools is not working we are learning about how to use yukky wordpress. How i also hate wordpress. Today is turning into a day of hate!

Oh and a wee plug for one of my class mates - listen to diamond fm at 8pm tonight and if you can't be arsed listening to that then there is always Off The Chart with is better :)

OTC in the news!
Hey all once again!
Just got a email from one of my fellow superstar DJs on Off The Chart Radio!
Scott Ashworth is doing a 10k run on sunday and he wrote into his local paper and managed to get off the chart mentioned! Nice on scott!

Why is everyone on this planet obsessed with the new game spore?
I was watching a game play video and yawned all the way thru it..well the 10mins I watched before i got so board I turned it off! I can't believe such a pointless game is doing so well? it's a lot of crap if you ask me!
People have said to me that playing The Sims is pointless? Well I think spore is more pointless! If you say sims is pointless and you play spore then quite frankly your a hypocrite in my eyes!
Thank god one person call angus ireland has some sense not to like it!

Hey guys! It's time for me to start a Blog according to my tutor at college! Suppose he is right, well of course he is, tutors are always right...you could compare them with mothers :) Here we go then!
